Michigan Gov. Whitmer Urges County Prosecutors to Overturn State Abortion Ban

Gretchen Whitmer is suing 13 Republican county prosecutors, asking the Michigan Court to restate women’s right to abortion.
Apart from filing the lawsuit, Gov. Whitmer (D) demands to challenge a 1931 Michigan law that prohibits abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.
“We’ve got to take this current assault on women’s rights seriously and use every tool we have to fight back,” Whitmer shared with “The Source with Kasie Hunt” on CNN. “This is not just a theoretical task. This is a real and present danger. And that’s why I filed this lawsuit.”
The US Supreme Court is currently processing several cases that enable women to do an abortion at early pregnancy or entirely limit access to abortion services. Whitmer’s team considers abortion prohibition in Michigan “unconstitutional and in violation of the state’s due process clause.”
Michigan conservatives described the lawsuit as “frivolous” and the one that “should be discarded by the judiciary.”
