Mother Sues Facebook and Snapchat For Her Teen Daughter’s Suicide

In Enfield, CT, 11-year old Selena Rodriguez took her own life after being addicted to social media platforms.
In her plaintiff, Selena’s mother Tammy Rodriguez has claimed that the “defective design, negligence and unreasonable dangerous features” of Facebook and Snapchat caused her daughter’s suicide.
Tammy took away Selena’s phone every time her daughter reached out for it but Selena’s behavior instantly changed for the worse. Also, the teenager was forced to share sexually inappropriate content on Instagram and Snapchat which was leaked among her school classmates. Later, the teenager was diagnosed with severe mental disorders, including depression, self-harm, and sleep deprivation.
A spokesperson for Snap stated that many mental health institutions are constantly improving Snapchat for users’ psychological well-being. For now, Meta spokespersons refused to comment on the case.
