Ohio Doctor Was Acquitted of 14 Patients Deaths
The former Columbus doctor William Husel was found not guilty of murdering 14 hospital patients who died of a prescribed fentanyl overdose.
Mount Carmel Health System, Ohio, is the largest state care system where William Husel used to work. Previously, the state health care center charged Husel with “hastening the deaths of 14 critically ill patients by overprescribing fentanyl” from 2015 to 2018. There were about 50 witnesses to testify in the case, including medical experts, families of the dead patients, and medical staff workers from the Mount Carmel Hospital West unit.
As a result, the jury announced Husel not guilty because they had reached an impasse but not a unanimous verdict. The fact that the doctor was intentionally trying to kill his patients with fentanyl overdose was not proved, as Jose Baez, the defense attorney, shared.
Since 2019, William Husel’s medical license has been suspended. His colleagues consider him a “hardworking and wonderful doctor who tried to save lives.”
