The International Court Ordered Russia To Cease Aggression in Ukraine

The United Nations’ highest court ruled Russia to “immediately suspend the military operations that it commenced on February 24.”

By 13-2 votes, on March 16, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced its verdict on the request of Ukraine to halt the Russian invasion. Although Moscow’s response and further actions are still questioned.

In addition, the court unanimously stated that both sides should suspend any actions that can escalate the situation. Mainly, the Russian Federation must comply with international law regulations.

Previously, Russia boycotted the ICJ’s hearing on March 2.

On Twitter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted positively to the verdict by the UN highest court: “Ukraine has gained a complete victory in its case against Russia at the International Court of Justice. The ICJ ordered to immediately stop the invasion. The order is binding under international law. Russia must comply immediately. Ignoring the order will isolate Russia even further.”
