A service agreement template explains what work will be done, who will do it, how much it will cost, and when it will be finished. It helps both sides understand their responsibilities and avoid confusion. You should use a simple contract for services any time you hire someone to do a job — like fixing something, cleaning, or providing a service.

When To Use a General Service Agreement

  • To avoid confusion or disagreements later.

How To Fill Out the Service Contract

1. Start with the basics

free service contract template

Write the date you’re signing the general contract for services (called the “Effective Date”).

Fill in the full names and addresses of both people or businesses involved:

  • One is the Client (the one paying for the service).
  • The other is the Service Provider (the one doing the work).

2. Describe the service

service agreement

In the section called “Scope of Services,” write exactly what the service provider is going to do.

Example: “Clean the office building every Monday and Thursday.”

3. Set the schedule

4. Agree on payment

In the “Payment Terms” section, fill in:

  • The total amount to be paid (called “Compensation”).
  • When payment is due (the “Due Date”).
  • The hourly rate for any extra (overtime) work.
  • The daily interest rate if payment is late.

5. Set a fix-it deadline

service contract

If something goes wrong, the service provider agrees to fix it within a certain number of days.

Fill in that number under the “Cure Period.”

6. Limit competition after the job

service agreement

In the “Non-Competition and Non-Solicitation” section, add how long the service provider:

  • Can’t take clients away from the client.
  • Can’t hire or try to hire the client’s employees.

7. Set the end of the contract

  • Under “Term and Termination,” write when the contract for services ends.
  • Add how many days of notice are needed if either side wants to cancel early.

Once all sections are filled in, both the Client and the Service Provider should sign and date the service agreement contract to make it official.
